Find the right safe

Whether for personal or business use, the focus should be on choosing the safe or security cabinet that meets your individual requirements. Before deciding, identify the items and documents to be protected and, where appropriate, consult your insurer. This provides the basis for selecting the right safe.

Below, we briefly introduce the most common types of safes:

Security safe

A security safe allows you to securely store a variety of valuables, cash and documents. The contents determine the recommended resistance grade. There are five different resistance grades assigned by the relevant testing organisation.

Gun cabinet

As with a security safe, the choice of a gun cabinet depends on what you want to store. You may require comprehensive firearms storage, meaning an unlimited number of handguns and long guns together with ammunition. Another option is to store firearms and ammunition separately. If you would like the firearms to be visible, certified gun cabinets with armoured glass fronts are available. A handgun cabinet is designed for the secure storage of pistols, revolvers and other compact firearms, together with their ammunition. Long-gun cabinets are designed for hunting rifles, shotguns and semi-automatic rifles. With sufficient space, a long-gun cabinet can safely store long guns, handguns and their ammunition together. This applies to a long-gun cabinet with resistance grade 1 according to EN 1143-1. The firearms storage laws of the relevant country or state must always be observed.

Fire-resistant safes

Fireproof or fire-resistant safes are designed to offer particular protection in the event of a fire. A fire and its aftermath can damage documents, cash and data storage media. Some safes therefore have insulation, workmanship and construction specifically designed to provide greater resistance to flames. Certified fire protection safes meet internationally recognised fire protection standards, such as the relevant European Standards (EN).

Gun rooms / gun room doors

If you prefer a gun room to a gun cabinet, or wish to convert a room into a gun room, this requires planning and expert advice. It is important to assess the conditions on site and establish access rights to the gun room in advance. If people without authorisation to access the firearms can also enter the vault room, a separate gun cabinet within the room may provide a suitable solution.

Key safes

A key safe, also known as a key box, enables businesses and private individuals to restrict access to keys to authorised people.

Hotel safe

There are various designs, ranging from small safes in hotel rooms, usually secured with an individual user code, to hotel safes with management systems that give authorised people access to specific data and items.

Furniture safe

A furniture safe is integrated into or enclosed by a piece of furniture. Its great advantage is that it is not immediately recognisable as a safe in a home or business premises. We developed our ingenious, patented Balzblock so that your most valuable belongings can be stored securely and discreetly in a safe integrated into your living space.

Vault room / vault door

If you would prefer a vault room or safe room to an individual safe, we would be happy to plan it with you. These rooms can also be used as panic rooms by integrating a special internal locking system. If the vault room is also to be used for storing firearms, a separate gun cabinet must be installed inside it to restrict access by unauthorised persons.

Document safe

A document safe protects important documents, such as files, insurance papers and securities, from unwanted access by unauthorised persons. This is also an important consideration for businesses seeking to comply with the GDPR.

Built-in safe

In addition to its security protection, a built-in safe is concealed from view because it is integrated into furniture or a wall. A built-in safe requires careful planning, and its intended location must be suitable. Built-in safes are usually planned as part of renovation or installation work. If you would like to retrofit a safe, our Balzblock can help.

Floor safe

Floor safes are usually planned into the floor during construction or renovation so that they can be recessed into it. Their heavy weight and usually robust anchoring make them difficult to remove. Our horizontal Balzsafe ONE safe is also suitable for use as a floor safe and can be installed discreetly in the floor.

Controlled drug safe

A controlled drug cabinet is a specially developed security cabinet for healthcare settings such as medical practices, hospitals, care homes and, in particular, pharmacies. It is designed to ensure secure, authorised and controlled access to certain medicines and prescription drugs.

Horizontal safes / built-in safes for furniture and floors

Our horizontal safes are also VdS / ECB-S tested and certified safes, security cabinets and gun cabinets in accordance with EN 1143-1. Thanks to our specially developed and patented opening mechanism, the safe is easy to open and close despite its heavy weight. This system ensures that the lid remains securely open and cannot slam shut accidentally. This solution offers many advantages, especially when it comes to integrating a safe discreetly while saving space. It can be seamlessly integrated into existing furniture, such as bed storage compartments and sofa bases, as well as floor openings. This allows you to make the most of valuable space without sacrificing additional room in your home.

Wall safe

A wall safe is built into the wall, providing a space-saving alternative to a freestanding safe. Another major advantage is that it can be integrated discreetly into your living space, so it is not immediately visible.

Data protection cabinet

When handling sensitive data, data protection cabinets that meet specific requirements are often used. This is also an important consideration for businesses seeking to comply with the GDPR.

Deposit safe

A deposit safe is designed to allow items or documents to be deposited. Once deposited, these items and documents cannot be retrieved by the person who deposited them. They are held inside the safe, which can only be opened and emptied by authorised people. This system is used, for example, by car dealerships to provide secure key deposits outside opening hours.

Cash safe

A cash safe can securely store cash for personal or business use and, if required, provide fire protection. ATMs also contain cash safes that secure the cash used for withdrawals.

Bank vault

Bank vault security is a complex subject that requires extensive planning. Requirements range from small key safes and cash safes to strongrooms with internal safe deposit box systems, all connected to security services and alarm systems.

Cash cassette cabinet

A cash cassette cabinet can securely store cash for personal or business use and, if required, provide fire protection.
ATMs also contain cash cassette cabinets that secure the cash used for withdrawals.

Safe cladding

A safe can be integrated into your living space with suitable cladding designed specifically for it. We design and build cladding in wood or other materials to fit your safe, entirely according to your wishes and ideas.
